Transporting freight by road forms the backbone of American trade and commerce. A semi doesn't need you to set up hundreds of miles or rails or even a few miles of perfectly smooth tarmac-all it needs is a road wide enough to show what it’s capable of. Of course, railways, planes, and ships are also essential, but none are nearly as flexible as trucks. Instead, Hoffa was trying to make the case that trucks seldom get the recognition or credit they deserve. Now, that is not to say that other vehicles or transportation modes don't also contribute to the worldwide economy and welfare of our society. As famous American union leader Jimmy Hoffa famously said, "If you got it, a truck brought it to you." It may seem like a simple statement, but it says a lot about the importance of semi-trucks in our everyday lives.
